Exeter Women's Aid

Volunteering

In addition to working as a paid worker at Exeter Women’s Aid there are various ways for women to get involved in a voluntary capacity, as outlined here.

Volunteering for the Management Group

The Management Group is made up of members who are trustees and others who are not. They meet regularly on the first Wednesday of the month from 5.30pm to 7.30pm along with managers, workers and whenever possible women who have access to our services.

We welcome anyone who can offer us skills, energy and work. We benefit from the contributions of many women - whether great or small - and it is possible to contribute without attending meetings. We would love to hear from anyone who has any time to spare. For example, we recently had our mailing data base updated by a volunteer and a team to help us with the catering at an event to celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2007.

For those who wish to become more committed we offer a full induction process, training and a 6 month period before possibly moving on to serve on one of our Sub-Groups. Currently these are:

  • Employment
  • Training
  • Child Protection
  • Trustee
  • Financial
  • Fundraising

Becoming a Trustee

Exeter Women’s Aid is a charity and a company limited under guarantee. The trustees are therefore, both trustees and directors of the charity. The trustees are accountable for ensuring that Exeter Women’s Aid has a clear strategy, that it remains true to its original vision and that it discharges all its financial and legal obligations. It is the trustees who are accountable and responsible for the charity’s compliance with all necessary rules and legal obligations.

Management Group is keen to recruit new members and would particularly like to hear from women who have experience or understanding of any of the following:

  • Finance and financial planning
  • Personnel and human resource management
  • General experience of running a business
  • Legal expertise
  • Experience of being a service user of Women’s Aid services
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Equal opportunities
  • An understanding of domestic violence and abuse and its causes
  • The provision of supported housing
  • Experience with working within or with statutory bodies, particularly health, housing, education or social services
  • Experience of working in or with services which aim to ensure the health and well being of children

For all volunteer posts there is a recruitment procedure and an application form. All volunteers are subject to enhanced CRB checks. For more information please ring our business line number on 01392 667145 or contact us at info@exeterwomensaid.org.uk.
