Children and Young people in the Refuge
Identifying and meeting the needs of children and young people is an important element of the work we do at the refuge. There is a specialist team of workers to provide a range of activities to encourage children and young people to play and express themselves, to share and socialise and interact with each other in a positive manner.
Children's support workers
They are specially trained to work with children. They can help children and young people:
- Settle in as quickly as possible to life in the refuge.
- Make new friends at the refuge.
- Express their emotions through individual one to one work.
- Build self-esteem and self-confidence.
- Sort out schooling arrangements and help women liaise with schools.
The play room
The play room is an excellent environment for children to get to know other children and express themselves without fear of making a mess! There are sessions and activities for both pre-school and school-age children.
The play room is registered with OFSTED, which ensures that very high standards of service are provided for the children.
The soft play room
This play area is for children under 5. This is an excellent area for kids to release all their energy in a safe and fun environment. The soft room is open at all times on request.
The upstairs den - aged 10+ only!
This room is for teenagers and children over 10 and is an excellent space where older children can play on the Play Station, listen to music, do homework or just a place to chill and get away from it all.
Children's activity space
Some old outbuildings have been demolished and soon we will have a new and fully equipped designed area for 5-9 year olds.
